Istanbul Modern is hosting Steve McCurry's exhibition "The Last Roll of Kodachrome" from August 3rd to September 4th. McCurry received the very last roll of Kodachrome that came off the assembly line in Rochester, New York. 31 pictures of this last roll are exhibited in Istanbul for the first time.
We had the chance to participate at the opening of this extraordinary exhibition and want to share some thoughts about it.

Steve is a member of the Magnum Photography Agency and got famous with his potrait of an Afghan Girl, which was on the cover of the National Geographic magazine.
sun.day.sky is the "price-free urban festival" that will take place in santrallistanbul on July 17-18 from 11 am to 10 pm. The festival is urban, yet it's far away from the chaos of the city.

Kağıthane and Alibeyköy brooks meet in Haliç. Shuttles (free of charge) are located in front of Taksim AKM (Ataturk
Cultural Center) between 08:30 and 21:00. If you prefer to drive, you can take the newly opened tunnel between
Kağıthane and Alibeyköy or follow Sütlüce coast road and get to
santralistanbul.
Realised with the co-sponsorship of Coca-Cola and in collaboration
with the Municipality of Beyoğlu, the Tünel Feast will begin at 18.00
on July 3, Saturday, and will continue throughout the night. The venues
that participate in the Feast include Salon, Nardis Jazz Club, Muammer
Karaca Theatre and the garden of the Consulate of Netherlands, which
will open its doors to music lovers exclusively for this activity.
The Feast will feature artists such as Larry Graham & Graham
Central Station, The Panorama Jazz Band, Emir Ersoy Projecto Cubano,
Maffy Falay Sextet, Jungle Boldie, Timuçin Şahin Quintet, as well as
Michiko Ogawa, who will perform as part of Japan Year 2010 in Turkey
activities.
Pazart is an art and design market, which will take place in Cihangir - Sanatkarlar Parki (Roma Bahcesi). The bazar will be open between June 27th and July 4th from 2pm to 8pm.
If you are a fan of stunning scenic views, sunny sunday vibes and
outdoor art markets experience this very creative and chilled out market in the
summer sun at Istanbul's most fascinating location. There will be
various stands selling art and design products, and home-made food. An
afternoon full of shopping, art and music.
Istanbul Modern is a museum of contemporary art inaugurated on December 11, 2004. The museum, located in a converted warehouse in Tophane district on the Bosphorus, is the first of its kind in Turkey.
Istanbul Modern has exhibitions on two floors. The museum's permanent
exhibition, along with the shop and the restaurant, is located on the
top floor. Temporary exhibitions are located on the lower floor, along
with the cinema and the library.
This Sunday due to Father's Day all the papas will have free admission.
The german consulate presents an exhibition about germans in Istanbul, who arrived more than 130 years ago to work at the Sultan's palace. Johann Meyer who was a watch maker at that time opened his own shop in Istanbul after working for the the Sultan a couple of years. This is how "Meyer Saatleri" was founded and became a famous brand for watches and clocks. "Meyer Saatleri" still exists.
The exhibition named "Boğaziçi'ndeki Almanya Sergisi" / „Deutsche Präsenz am Bosporus“ is on display at Beyoğlu Belediyesi Sanat Galerisi, Istiklal Cad. No 217 Tünel - Istanbul till 26th June.
Together with Feiland Media,who's boss is a descendant of Johann Meyer, Studio Istanbul produced 5 short videos portraying Johann Meyer and his company from the 1880s till today. They are shown at the exhibition as well as here on our Blog. Currently we just have a german version with turkish subtitles, but if you speak one of these languages have fun watching this great family story.
A platform for contemporary music and composition, The Morning Line
is a public art structure – 8 meter high and 20 meter long, built of 17
tons of coated aluminum – exploring the disciplinary interplays between
art, architecture, music, mathematics, cosmology, and science.
The opening will be on May 22nd at Eminönü Square at 7pm followed by special performances by Jónsi & Alex, Cevdet Erek, Lee Ranaldo and Ghostigital.
Bruno Barbey's Istanbul is an exhibition of 60 selected images shot by Bruno Barbey taken over a time period of over five years and features daily life snapshots of the city and its people. The exhibition opened April 16th and will be open until May 30th.
Bruno Barey studied photography and graphic arts at the Ecole des Arts
et Métiers in Vevey, Switzerland and is active for the photographic cooperative Magnum Photos since 1964. You can visit the exhibition at Sermet Çifter Hall, İstiklal Cad. No.161-161A, Kat: 1, Beyoğlu.
Artane bringing contemporary art to Istanbul since 2006 has David Lynch's prints and photogravures on display. Long before Lynch entered the world of motion pictures, he worked for years as an abstract expressionist painter.
David Lynch's work will be open to public from April 9th until May 29th. You find Artane in Cihangir, Sanatkarlar Caddesi, Balanbey Çıkmazı 1. Visiting hours are tuesday - saturday from 11am till 7pm.
